DARE TO BE DIFFERENT - HE Social Entrepreneurship Awards

Unltd (the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs) and HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) have joined forces to provide start-up support and funding to staff or students in universities who have an enterprising solution to a social problem.

Staff and students who are interested in using their entrepreneurial skills to create positive change in the community may be eligible for one of our new awards, either to help to get a new project off the ground, or to take an existing project to the next level.

Their Awards cover two categories:

'Catalyst awards' of up to 5,000 (with an average award of 2,500) will allow individuals to grow an entrepreneurial idea that also creates positive social change. For more information and to apply, see Website: http://www.se-awards.org.uk/ .

'Development Awards' of up to 15,000 in living expenses and project costs will be available for those with existing projects, usually 1-3 years old and with a turnover of over 20,000, to move them up to the next level. The first round launches at the end of February, and Expression of Interest Forms will be available to download from Website: http://www.se-awards.org.uk/ from 26th February 2010, with a closing date of 22nd March at noon. A second round will be held later in the year.

In addition to financial support, the programme includes a package of non-financial support, networking and awareness-raising activities to promote social entrepreneurship among staff and students in English HEIs.

Sarah Yorke, the new northern region Development Manager, is now in post and is looking forward to hearing from you. If you are interested in applying, would like to know more, or can help to promote this great new opportunity, contact her on: 01274 750 630 or email sarahyorke@unltd.org.uk
